Creating an inviting living space for guests

Are you having guests over for the holidays this year? Or, maybe even before that? If so, you need to get your home prepared, especially if you haven’t hosted people for a while now. Creating an inviting living space for guests is fun and easy, but it definitely requires time and attention to detail. Here are a few tips on creating an inviting living space for guests:

Prepare the bathroom

This is just a personal tip that I have found makes a huge difference when in somebody's home. Make sure there's enough toilet paper (because no visitors enjoy having to ask for more), that the soap dispenser is full, and that there are clean towels for drying your hands. It also doesn't hurt to have a subtle air freshener  (there are some non-toxic ones out there, for your sensitive guests) or some essential oils for an added little touch. Also, you might want to consider adding in a toilet plunger, just to save your guests the awkwardness of asking for one, if need be. Maybe a TMI point to add on here, but it’s very helpful. Trust me! Last but not least, you might also want to consider having some extra toothbrushes, toothpaste, and small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and soap, just in case they forgot anything at home.

Have bedding ready ahead of time

This one specifically applies to when you're having overnight guests. Nothing feels as nice as when you visit friends or family and your bed is already made and towels are already out for you. Plus, it always feels like you're kind of an inconvenience when it comes time for bed and you have to watch your host fumble around for clean sheets. So for an added extra touch, make sure all of this is ready before your guests arrive. Want them to smell great? Make your own wind-down essential oil home spray. It will add a fancy, hotel-like touch for your overnight guests!

Free up space in the bedroom

This one might sound like an odd tip, but so many guest bedrooms nowadays are SMALL. If you have a chair, a bed, a dresser, etc. in the room, your guests might not have any space for their luggage! Free up space, when possible. If you don’t need it, I always recommend getting rid of large furniture pieces (like dressers) that are not really being used much. Let your front porch and entryway set the tone

Never underestimate the power of some really good curb appeal! A quick front stoop clean and a bright welcome mat does wonders. We’re also suckers for cute signs by the front door that say “hello.” Want a quick trick for an entryway to add instant inviting vibes? Add a big green leafy plant right to the side of the inside of your front door (if one will fit). Guests get a big eyeful of green life as soon as your door is opened.
